Welcome to Mahlathini Private Game Reserve

We are delighted to welcome all new and returning members to the Mahlathini Private Game Reserve.

This newsletter is designed to help you quickly become acquainted with the Reserve and the unique bushveld environment that you are now part of. May your time here be filled with the peace, joy, and inspiration that come from living close to nature.

About the Reserve

Mahlathini Private Game Reserve is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors. Their primary responsibility is to protect and promote the collective interests of property owners, residents, and users across the Reserve. The Board is committed to ensuring the ecological integrity, sustainable development, and long-term preservation of this remarkable natural area.

Game and Veld Management Update

Elephant Activity
Over the past few months, the Reserve has faced ongoing challenges due to heightened elephant activity. Daily breaches of perimeter fencing have occurred, requiring continuous attention and repair by the Reserve Manager and his team. Additionally, some private residences have experienced structural damage linked directly to elephant movement.

Game Census
Due to several operational constraints—including the unavailability of aerial support, persistent rainfall, and dense vegetation growth—this season’s game count has not yet been conducted. Despite this, observations confirm a healthy Impala population, and it is currently estimated that over 140 buffalo are roaming within the Reserve.

Warm regards,

The Mahlathini Private Game Reserve Team
